The Institute of Sericulture and Apiculture was established in 2005 based on the its previous body, Canxueguan ( Presently the institute has 10 faculty including 5 professors eligible to supervise Ph.D students, 4 associate professors and 1 advanced technician, among them 9 persons have doctoral degree. The enrollment of master and doctoral students is 11 respectively. It is also able to accept the foreign student or visiting scholar. The institute is actively doing the basic and applied research, mainly focusing on three subjects: germplasm and molecular breeding, biological function and disease control, as well as genetic engineering and new product development. Now it is undertaking lots of research projects, including 1 National Basic Research Program (973 project), 1 National Hi-tech Research and Development Program (863), 8 National Natural Science Fundation of China, as well as more than 30 ministry’s and local provincial grants. In 2005, the institute got the research fund as high as 5 million RMB, resulting in excellent scientific achievement, including 12 papers published in international journals (SCI), 28 papers in China top-level journals, and one prize of Scientific Advancement from Zhejiang Provice, as well as some patents.
