There are three departments in the College: Animal Science & Technology, Veterinary Medicine,and Special Economic Animal Science. Based on the scientific research areas, the College grouped the faculty staff into six research institutes: Feed Sciences, Preventive Veterinary Medicine, Dairy Science, Animal Breeding, Husbandry & Environmental Engineering, Sericulture & Apiculture, and Applied Bio-Resources.
The College offers undergraduate education program in Animal Science and Veterinary Medicine. The College offers graduate study program for PhD degree in two primary disciplines of Animal Science and Preventive Veterinary Medicine. The College is authorized to offer post-doctoral training in the primary disciplines including Animal Science, Veterinary Medicine and and in the disciplines of Biological Sciences together with the College of Life Science. The College currently is entitled with one National Key Discipline, one National Key Discipline on check, one Key Discipline of Ministry of Agriculture, and three key disciplines at the provincial levels. There are one National Engineering Laboratory, one Key Laboratory of the Ministry of Education, two Key Laboratories of Ministry of Agriculture, and two Key Laboratories of Zhejiang Province in the college. In addition, the “Animal Digestive System Development and Function” research team is entitled as the Science and Technology Innovation Team by the Ministry of Education. The research teams for “Feed Research and Safety” and for the “Major Animal Infectious Diseases Prevention and Treatment” are both entitled as the key Science and Technology Innovation Team by Zhejiang Province.
There are 157 faculty staffs in the College, including 1 academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, 41 professors, 45 associate professors and 22 post-doctoral researcher fellows. The total enrollment of undergraduates and graduates at present is 779, including 330 undergraduates, 277 MS candidates, 158 PhD candidates, and 14 foreign students studying for MS or PhD. The college has so far nurtured more than 6900 professionals in various fields. The outstanding scientific research in the College has earned high recognition worldwide. A total of 89 awards for scientific and educational achievements have been granted to the staff in the College since 2000, including three 2nd Class Awards of the Chinese National Scientific and Technological Advancements, Nutritional regulation of good-quality milk production and standardization of key technologies for dairy cow feeding” e.g. and two 2nd Class Chinese National Educational Awards.
